Our beliefs

A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their works of art, craft and design.  As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design.  They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

It is our role to ensure that children become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.  We want children to produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences; evaluating and analysing creative works using the language of art, craft and design.  Children will learn about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art form.

Our art curriculum

At Studley Green we teach Art using the Kapow Primary scheme of work taught in blocks linked to our topic learning where appropriate. Our Art teaching is split into four key elements: drawing, craft and design, sculpture and 3D and painting and mixed media. Across the key stages, children will experience all of these four key elements and be able to develop their skills in each. Through the use of sketchbooks, we encourage the use of experimentation, risk and innovation.  We aim to create confident, independent artists who can articulate and value their own creative journeys.
